#GIRLBOSS READING LIST

Let me be totally honest — I’m not the best reader. It takes me FOREVER to finish a book from beginning to end and will admit that I judge a book by it’s cover. It was until I found my niche “self-help” books that I’ve been so motivated and inspired by that I feel like I can finally consider myself somewhat of a book worm.

Since starting my own business, I've designed my own line of "text books" that no college  would have recommended to me & not only have these books encouraged me to start Sociva Studios but honestly have gotten me through some of my worst hardships and lifted me up at my lowest lows. I couldn't thank the authors of these books enough for encouraging me to be the "Badass #GirlBoss" that I've become. Along with sticking to "GirlCode," helping me be proud of the person I am today.

The books/audibles listed below are the books that encouraged me to pave my own path, start my business, move across the country, are what I have playing in the background every day to keep me motivated and in a positive #GirlBoss spirit, and overall helped me evolve as a young professional.

2) #GIRLBOSS by: Sophia Amoruso

Sophia Amoruso spent her teens hitchhiking, committing petty theft, and scrounging in dumpsters for leftover bagels. By age twenty-two she had dropped out of school, and was broke, directionless, and checking IDs in the lobby of an art school--a job she'd taken for the health insurance. It was in that lobby that Sophia decided to start selling vintage clothes on eBay.

Flash forward ten years to today, and she's the founder and executive chairman of Nasty Gal, a $100-million-plus fashion retailer. Sophia was never a typical CEO, or a typical anything, and she's written #GIRLBOSS for other girls like her: outsiders (and insiders) seeking a unique path to success, even when that path is windy as all hell and lined with naysayers.

#GIRLBOSS proves that being successful isn't about where you went to college or how popular you were in high school. It's about trusting your instincts and following your gut; knowing which rules to follow and which to break; when to button up and when to let your freak flag fly.

*This one I highly recommend getting an Audible! #GirlBoss is my favorite Audible to listen to at any time of the day, especially while I'm driving. I have #GIRLBOSS playing constantly as my background noise and tune into my favorite chapters often for my daily "motivation tools" as I call it!

3) Capture Your Style: Transform Your Instagram Images, Showcase Your Life, and Build the Ultimate Platform by: Aimee Song

From Instagram star Aimee Song, creator of the popular fashion blog Song of Style, comes the very first how-to Instagram guide, breaking down the essentials to taking gorgeous photos and building your brand and following.

With over three million Instagram fans, Aimee Song knows a thing or two about taking the perfect Instagram photo. And Instagram is so much more than a platform for pretty pictures. It’s the fastest-growing social media network with an engaged community, a major marketing tool for brands, a place where Beyoncé drops her albums, and a hub where products can be bought with a simple double tap. Including everything from fashion, travel, food, décor, and more, Aimee includes insider tips on curating a gorgeous feed and growing an audience.

*Now, although this is a book all about building your Instagram platform. For my work, yes an amazing marketing tool but also was very inspiring to read on how Aimee's success began with a passion that she had no idea would become what it is today. Her success is proof that anything can happen and opportunities may be right in front of us and we don't even know it yet! Also, if you're a true #GIRLBOSS, a beautiful Insta-Feed is a must!

4) Rich Bitch: A Simple 12-Step Plan for Getting Your Financial Life Together... Finally by: Nicole Lapin

In this New York Times bestseller, journalist and financial expert Nicole Lapin shows women how to take charge of their lives by taking charge of their money.

Do your eyes glaze over just thinking about the mumbo-jumbo language of finance? Do you break out into hives when faced with getting your financial life together? Well, sister, you are not alone.

In Rich Bitch, money expert and financial journalist Nicole Lapin lays out a 12-Step Plan in which she shares her experiences—mistakes and all—of getting her own finances in order. She talks to you not like a lecturer but as your friend. And even though money is typically an “off-limits” conversation, nothing is off-limits here.

Lapin rethinks every piece of financial “wisdom” you’ve ever heard and puts her own fresh, modern, sassy spin on it. Sure, there are some hard-and-fast rules about finance, but when it comes to your money, the only person who can tell you how to spend it is you. Should you invest in a 401(k)? Maybe not. Should you splurge on that morning latte? Likely yes. Instead of focusing on nickel-and-diming yourself, Nicole’s advice focuses on investing in yourself so you don’t have to stress over the little things.

Rich Bitch rehabs whatever bad money habits you might have and provides a plan you can not only sustain, but also thrive on. You won’t feel deprived but rather inspired to go after the rich life you deserve, and confident enough to call yourself a rich bitch.

*This one I am currently listening to on Audible & feel so inspired to finally take the steps I need to get my finances in order and for once in my life feel truly secure.

5) GirlCode by: Cara Alwill Leyba

I am witnessing a phenomenon. It seems as though a growing group women entrepreneurs all around the world has discovered the secret to success and happiness in both their lives and careers. It's almost as though there is a hidden, underground world of power playing females who have all cracked a magical code: they think positively, they support one another, and they truly believe they can have it all -and you can, too. There is something dynamic that happens when women genuinely show up for each other. When we lose the facades, when we cut the bullsh*t, and when we truly have each others backs. When we stop pretending everything is perfect, and we show the messy, beautiful parts of ourselves and our work that all look awfully similar. When we talk about our fears, our missteps, and our breakdowns. And most importantly, when we share our celebrations, our breakthroughs, and dish on what works. There is no reason to hoard information, connections, or insight. Wisdom is meant to be shared, so let's start sharing what we've learned to make each other better. Let's start building each other up. Let's live up to our potential and start ruling the world. GIRL CODE is a roadmap for female entrepreneurs, professional women, "side hustlers" (those with a day job who are building a business on the side), and anyone in between who wants to become a better woman. This book will not teach you how to build a multimillion dollar business. It won't teach you about systems or operational processes. But it will teach you how to build confidence in yourself, reconnect with your "why," eradicate jealousy, and ultimately learn the power of connection. Because at the end of the day, that's what life and business is all about.

6) Get Over Your Damn Self: The No-BS Blueprint to Building a Life-Changing Business by: Romi Neustadt

Romi Neustadt is passionate about helping others build lucrative direct sales and network marketing businesses that help create lives with more freedom and flexibility, greater purpose and a lot more fun. In this book she offers you the same direct, no-BS coaching she's given to tens of thousands to help you acquire the skills to build this sucker and teach your team to do the same. And, equally important, she'll work on your mindset so you stop over complicating it all and stop letting the negative voices in your head win.

*This book really is a blueprint and I am completely raptured by the information inside! Finding your "Why?" is so important in business and the ultimate "Girlboss" life. Remembering why you started is so important to your success and this book is no BS!

7) WORK PARTY by Jaclyn Johnson

Okay this is what I’m currently reading right now and even though I’m halfway in — this just HAD to be on the list. I haven’t been able to put this baby down since I’ve gotten it. Every single time I’m nose deep into this book, I can’t decide if I want to keep reading or work my ass off because I’m SO inspired and SO ignited by what Jaclyn shares in her book. She keeps it real AF when sharing her story of making the switch from corporate to creative and you will be at the edge of your seat so inspired to take the leap. “Collaboration over Competition” is what the Create & Cultivate lifestyle is all about and I promise you, you’ll want in.

8) How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie

I don’t want to say that I’ve saved the best for last because they are ALL good but…I’ve saved the best for last. “Rough around the edges” is an understatement if you saw the current state of my book. 80% of this book is highlighted, underlined, has pages folded over, notes in the margins and is half crinkled from falling in the bath. If there is ANY one book that you choose to read from this list — choose this one. On the cover it says “the only book you need to lead you to success” and I truly believe that is 100% true! There is a reason why this book has been a best seller for going on 80+ YEARS! This is the most groundbreaking book that will teach you simple and life-changing concepts that will help you take any situation and make it work for you.

Again, these books have changed my life and really have been tools I refer to on the daily for motivation and as my "blue-print" go-to's. Now back to the fact that I am NOT a good reader...so THANK GOD FOR AUDIBLE! Audible has helped me finish books that I most likely never would have been able to finish tangibly and the best part is that I can tune into them and "read" anytime and anywhere I want. They've helped my long drives go faster, motivated me during commutes, & honestly lifted my spirits every day listening to such inspiring women.

I seriously encourage you to get an Audible account if you're a "bad" reader like me. Amazon offers a free 30-Day Trial with 2 credits meaning 2 free books! Consider these books as the ultimate textbooks to graduate from "GirlBoss University," and tools to really help you succeed.
